Green Spark

In the year 2100, the city of Neo-Bloom was not very colorful. There were no parks, no flowers, and no tall trees. Everything was grey, and the sky was often dusty. Lyra lived in a small apartment at the top of a tall metal building. She looked out her window every morning, wishing she could see something green.

Lyra was an inventor. She did not like to throw things away. Instead of buying new toys, she looked for treasures in the piles of old metal and plastic. One afternoon, she finished her greatest project. It was a small robot named Scraps. He was made from an old toaster, some copper wires, and two bright blue lightbulbs for eyes.

Scraps was very smart. He helped Lyra find old things to fix. One day, while digging through a box of junk, they found a very old, dusty photograph. In the picture, the world was full of bright green grass and a beautiful blue sky. Lyra and Scraps stared at it in wonder.

“Why is our world so grey now?” Lyra asked. She walked outside to the street. Everywhere she looked, there was rubbish. Plastic bottles, old batteries, and broken machines were piled high in the corners. The ground was covered in things that people had used only once and then forgotten.

Green Spark

Suddenly, Scraps made a loud beeping sound. He pointed his metal finger at a clear plastic bottle lying in the dirt. Inside the bottle, something amazing was happening. A tiny green sprout had grown from a seed. It was trapped inside the plastic, reaching for the sunlight.

Green Spark

“We have to help it!” Lyra cried. She carefully opened the bottle and moved the tiny plant into a patch of real soil. Then, she and Scraps began to work. They picked up every piece of plastic and metal they could find. They didn’t just throw them away; they sorted them into special bins so they could be made into something new.

Their neighbor, a boy named Milo, came outside. He was carrying a broken toy he wanted to throw in the bin. “What are you doing?” Milo asked. Lyra smiled and said, “We are recycling! If we clean up the rubbish and reuse what we have, the Earth can grow green again.”

Green Spark

Milo wanted to help, too. He didn’t throw his toy away. Instead, he gave it to Scraps. Scraps used a small tool to tighten a screw, and the toy’s lights began to blink again. “Reuse is even better than recycling!” Milo shouted happily. He started helping Scraps move the heavy metal boxes to the right bins.

Soon, other people in Neo-Bloom saw what they were doing. Everyone began to clean, sort, and recycle. Lyra and Milo spent the afternoon planting more seeds in the clean soil. They watered them every day, and slowly, the grey city began to change.

Green Spark

Years later, the city was no longer grey. It was called “The Emerald City.” Trees grew between the buildings, and flowers bloomed on every balcony. Lyra and Scraps sat under a tall oak tree, listening to the birds. They knew that by taking care of the Earth today, they had saved the future.
